By early March the period of stormy weather had ended and new coastal protection work was undertaken to re-enforce the undermined sea wall. In this picture, taken on March 5th, sheet piling is being banged into the Kimmerage Clay. Notice also the rock armour in front of the sheet piling put in place to stop any further wave attack while the work was being progressed.
This view gives a better idea of the rock armour. Locally sourced Portland Stone was used, not surprisingly.
In this picture also taken on March 5th notice the lack of shingle on the beach despite a period of more benign weather.
This view also shows the lack of shingle in Chesil Cove although larger chunks of Portland Stone remain. Contrast this picture with a similar view taken on March 12th.
The storms had taken their toll on the Cove Inn which was in need of some TLC!
The gabions by the Cove Inn were in a state of disrepair (!) and needed urgent attention. See pictures from May 6th onwards which show the remedial action taken
